Sometimes a dense zigzag stitch can form a lump stopping the machine to move. What you could try is before you cut the shape, draw a line were you would cut it. Then place and pin it were you want it on your jeans. Use a straight stitch to sew it on to the jeans just inside the drawn line all around. Cut away the outside just leave 1 mm next to the stitching. Zigzag over the straight stitch and make sure you cover the side of the shape as well. Hope this helps.
