I've used Marathon, Mettler and Robison Anton threads for machine embroidery. I really can't tell the difference and my machine (a Bernina) copes with them all. Marathon online seem to be the cheapest so that's my "go to" unless I have to copy a specific colour chart. I've also used anything in the thread stash for regular decorative stitches. I've used tear away stabiliser for just about anything but have recently used Madeira water soluble with great success as well. I think stabiliser is useful for a lot of decorative stitches. I would always recommend trying everything out on samples first. Hope this is helpful!
