Question using a woven pattern for a knit fabric

Can any one help me please? I've got a really old vogue pattern which I think will look lovely in a knit fabric - I've got a stretchy, red, crushed velvet for the job but I'm not sure about the sizing as I know there is more design ease for wovens than knits. The pattern I have is a size 10 and I'm now a size 12/14 (with tendencies towards 16 around the hips!! ) I'm ok with grading it up but am not sure what to do as its a different fabric.
Or shall I just abandon the idea and buy a new pattern? (I was just trying to save money..... she lied, its because I have the fabric, the thread and the desire to sew )
