This year I made my prom dress myself. The dress is finished but there are some wrinkles in it that I would like to remove. The dress is made of two layers of fabric: the lining is pure silk, the outer layer is silk chiffon.
I am having difficulty ironing the dress because it will not fit on my ironing board properly. Does anyone have any tips? Will a dry-cleaner be able to press my dress for me? Can the dress be steamed? I hear you are not supposed to use steam when ironing chiffon. If anyone has any advice for me, it would be greatly appreciated. -Shauna p.s. my prom is this Friday! |

Silk chiffon will steam very successfully but if you are in any doubt your local drycleaners will just press your dress for you.
I think you may be thinking about getting water droplets on the fabric, these will leave marks but if your iron has a powerful enough steam just hang on a hanger and just shoot the steam through it. |

I make wedding dresses and other stuff, and steam various forms of silk and chiffon quite a lot. It works very well, but as Marian says, the important thing is not to get water droplets on it! If your iron hisses or spits at all, you're better trying a dry cleaners. This close to the prom that may be a problem if there isn't one close to you that presses on the premisis and can fit you in...
