Default Can't stop lightweight fabrics from puckering!

My first machine, a janome QXL650 arrived today and I am for the most part very happy with it. The problem comes when sewing lightweight fabrics - I have tried everything to eliminate puckering to no avail, altered the foot pressure, the thread tension etc.

I read that straight stitch needle plates can help with this problem but I was disappointed to find there is no such plate to suit my machine. There is a straight stitch foot though, would this be any use without the matching plate? And is there anything else I can do about the puckering?

Thanks so much!
