Red face Help - how to wash my jersey fabric

Hi
I recently bought some jersey fabric from Tissu, as recommended by a member. My husband washed half of it by hand and hung it out to dry. I stretched and was difficult to cut out. The other half went in the washing machine and was hung over a collapsible airer. This was better but it still showed signs of stretching, even after ironing. So can anybody suggest a way to wash and iron jersey material so that there are no stretched areas? Hope this is clear. Many thanks. Mary
