Default blackout lining

hi
i have just made 2pair of blackout curtains, i attached the blackout to the fabric by machine, ( both sides), but when turned thro, i noticed that the edges where wavy, meaning that it was tight. i then unpicked the sides, and pinned lining and fabric together, pins every 2 inches. ( i made sure to put my pins near to the edge, as not to get pin holes). still was too tight!!, in the end i hand stiched all edges. does anyone have any ideas of what to do?. thanks.
