Default Turning lined waistcoat ??

I am making a lined waistcoat with no fastening and followed the pattern up to turning it right side out. I have sewn around the armholes , neck and bottom edges as instructed leaving a 6 inch gap in the side lining. Then it says to turn it right side out through the 6 inch gap. PLEASE, can anyone tell me how to do this? I can get everything turned except the shoulders. Where am I going wrong.
Thanks in anticipation
Lillian
